I don’t know about you, but I’m very happy to see the start of a new month. Am I the only one who felt like January had approximately 8,000 days? Now, if only we could do something about the frigid temperatures and the weekly snow threats in the forecast.
The good news? With February’s arrival, we’re officially that much closer to longer, warmer days. Here’s hoping it’s a quick month, and one that allows for a little more fresh air, sunshine, and time spent outdoors.
Here’s what’s on my agenda:
Go: If you’re a longtime reader, you might remember that I was very into boxing a few years back. Then the pandemic happened…and then life happened…and I haven’t stepped back into the ring since. But that’s about to change, thanks to a new boxing studio that recently opened, and offered me a complimentary class. Boxing was always one of my favorite workouts, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with it at JAB Boxing Studio in Woodbury. Stay tuned for a full review soon!
Do: This winter has been especially tough for those of us who work from home. Sure, we don’t have to shovel out our cars or commute to an office, but many of us end up feeling like total shut-ins. Recently, I intentionally scheduled a few in-person meetings instead of virtual ones, and the difference in my mental health was immediate. It’s so easy to spend the entire day glued to your desk, but having something on my calendar that required me to show up (and leave the house) was a game-changer.
If you work from home and need a reset, try penciling in an in-person meeting or coffee. It gets you out the door and gives you something to look forward to.
Try: Every time I go in for a haircut, I swear I’m going to try something new…and then I panic and ask for “just a trim.” Not this time. My hair has gotten so long since my last cut, and I think I’m finally ready for a real change. The appointment is booked—now I just need inspiration. Have a haircut you’ve been loving lately (bonus points if it’s low-maintenance)? Send it my way.
Read: This might not sound like a book you’d typically pick up, but I’m currently reading The Life Machines by Daria Mochly-Rosen, PhD, and Emanuel Rosen—and I’m hooked. If you remember anything from middle school biology, you might already be guessing that it’s about mitochondria (yes, the powerhouse of the cell). The book dives deep into mitochondrial health, and it’s absolutely fascinating. I never expected to be so engrossed in evening science reading, but I truly can’t put it down.
What’s on your agenda this month?
