There’s something about a fresh manicure that just hits differently, especially when the colors feel like they’re telling a story.
Lately, I’ve been reaching for shades that feel a little more playful and more expressive…thanks to the newest colors from Manucurist’s Playback Collection.
Inspired by the bold, iconic energy of the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, this trio of polishes feels like a subtle nod to decades that weren’t afraid of color. And while each shade pulls from a different era, they somehow still feel completely wearable right now.
So far, I’ve tried two of the three—and I already have a favorite (though it’s close).

Spicy is the kind of red that doesn’t whisper—it speaks. It’s vibrant, confident, and just bold enough to make a statement without feeling over the top. There’s a warmth to it that feels a little retro in the best way, like something you’d spot in a vintage beauty campaign, but it still feels modern on the nails. It’s quickly become one of those shades I know I’ll reach for when I want to feel instantly put together.

Then there’s Tangerine, which might be the most fun I’ve had with a nail color in a while. It’s a bright, light orange that feels playful and unexpected, especially if you tend to stick to neutrals (guilty). It leans into that carefree, almost sun-soaked energy, like long days, warm nights, and not taking things too seriously. It’s the kind of color that makes you look down at your hands and smile. I can already tell that this will be the color I reach for all summer long.
And next up on my list to try is Nebula. A pearly, milky white that feels like a complete shift in mood in the best way. Where Spicy and Tangerine bring the bold, Nebula feels soft, elevated, and a little ethereal. I have a feeling it’s going to be that clean, polished shade I reach for when I want something understated but still special.
What I love most about this collection is how it taps into nostalgia. Each shade gives a subtle wink to a different decade, but they’re all incredibly wearable for everyday life—whether you’re heading to a meeting, out to dinner, or just want that little boost that comes from feeling put together.
It’s a reminder that sometimes, the smallest details—like the color on your nails—can shift your entire mood.
And right now, I’m leaning all the way in.
Curious to see the shades for yourself? Check out the new Manucurist collection and find your favorite—Spicy, Tangerine, or Nebula—and let your nails do the talking.
