Before leaving for a work conference in Pittsburgh next week, there was one thing I knew I needed to figure out: jeans. What I was searching for is the kind you can build outfits around and that are polished enough for daytime meetings, easy enough for running around the city, and comfortable enough to wear on repeat without overthinking it.
Simple in theory…but somehow, I had been striking out for months.
As a millennial, I’ve been a longtime loyalist to the OG skinny jean. They’ve been my comfort zone for years—easy, flattering, and dependable. But let’s be honest, the style landscape has shifted. The looser, more relaxed fits that are everywhere right now? I wasn’t exactly quick to jump on board.
I wanted to like them. I just didn’t know if they would feel like me. Still, with this work trip on the horizon, I figured it was time to at least try. So I did what I always do when I need something that actually fits—I went to LOFT.
If you’re petite, you already know: finding jeans that don’t require a trip to the tailor is a win in itself. LOFT has been my go-to for years because their petite section just gets it with proportions, inseams, and all of it.
And that’s where I found them. The pair that after what felt like years of searching, fit perfectly.
They were a slightly looser fit than what I’m used to, but still structured in a way that felt polished and put-together. High-waisted without being over the top, easy through the leg, and, most importantly, petite, so the length hit exactly where it was supposed to.
What surprised me most was how quickly they felt like they’ve always been mine. That hesitation I had about stepping away from skinny jeans? Gone. These felt current without trying too hard, comfortable without feeling sloppy, and elevated, but still effortless.
Exactly what I needed for a work trip where I wanted to feel confident, but not overdone.
I’ve already worn them multiple ways—paired with a blazer, a simple knit for coffee runs, and dressed up a bit for dinner. They’re going to be that anchor piece in my suitcase that makes everything else easier.
And maybe that’s the thing about style as we evolve. It’s not about chasing every trend or holding onto what used to work just because it’s familiar. It’s about finding the pieces that meet you where you are now and feel aligned with your life, your body, and your confidence.
For me, this pair of jeans was exactly that.
