When people think about adventure, they often picture boarding a plane, planning an elaborate itinerary, or traveling somewhere far from home. But sometimes the best adventures are the ones waiting right in your own backyard.
That was exactly how I felt during a recent visit to Del Vino Vineyards in Northport.
On a beautiful Long Island afternoon, I traded my usual routine for a few hours among the vines, soaking in the scenery, enjoying live music, and sharing good conversation over a glass of wine. From the moment I arrived, it felt like I had been transported somewhere much farther away than a short drive from home.

The vineyard’s picturesque setting, complete with sprawling rows of grapevines and views that seem made for lingering, offered the perfect reminder that you don’t always have to travel far to experience something new. Sometimes all it takes is saying yes to a local outing you’ve been meaning to make or revisiting a favorite place with fresh eyes.
As someone who loves to travel, I’m always looking forward to the next trip. But experiences like this remind me that adventure isn’t defined by distance. It’s about stepping away from your everyday routine, embracing the moment, and discovering something that brings you joy.
Long Island is full of places that make you feel like you’ve escaped without ever leaving home. Whether it’s an afternoon at a vineyard, a day at the beach, a sunset sail, or time spent exploring a new town, there are countless opportunities to create memorable experiences right where we are.

My visit to Del Vino was a reminder to appreciate the places we have access to locally, and how lucky we are to live somewhere with so many hidden gems worth exploring. This summer, I’m making a point to seek out more of those close-to-home adventures. Because while a passport stamp is always exciting, sometimes the perfect getaway is closer than you think.
And on this particular afternoon, it was waiting among the vines.
