Fall may have arrived a little too early this year…or at least it feels that way. One minute it was summer, and the next, the temperatures dropped and it suddenly felt a little too chilly for my liking.
I’m still not quite ready to let go of summer, but there’s something about the arrival of fall that does make me want to slow down just a little.
Maybe it’s the cooler mornings, the first sweater of the season, or that unmistakable feeling that a new season is beginning. I love that fall doesn’t necessarily require a complete reset. Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that make the season feel special.
For me, it’s less about doing more and more about appreciating the little luxuries that make everyday life feel a bit cozier.
Here are five little luxuries I’m embracing as we settle into fall:
A morning coffee ritual: One of my favorite things about cooler mornings is having a little more of a reason to linger over coffee. There’s something about swapping the iced coffee for a warm cappuccino on a crisp morning that just feels like fall. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated. Sometimes it’s simply taking a few extra minutes before the day gets busy to actually enjoy it.
Pulling out the fall wardrobe: I have a love-hate relationship with that first day when you can officially put away the lighter summer pieces and start reaching for sweaters, jackets, and layers.
But fall clothes just feel good. Maybe it’s the textures, maybe it’s the layers, or maybe I just enjoy having an excuse to refresh my wardrobe a little. And, of course, fall also means cooler days at the barn and new fall riding attire, which is one of my favorite parts of the season.
A fresh start at home: I recently did a massive clean-up, and honestly, it was incredibly satisfying. Clearing out things I don’t need, organizing the spaces that had gotten a little out of control, and generally getting everything back in order made my home feel completely different.
Now that everything is clean and organized, I’m looking forward to enjoying it a little more. Fresh spaces, a cozy throw, a candle, and a quiet evening at home suddenly feel like the luxury I needed.
Slowing down in the evening: After a busy day, I’ve been trying to appreciate the quieter parts of the evening a little more. Putting my phone down, catching up on a show or reading for a bit—it’s not exactly groundbreaking, but it feels different when you actually allow yourself to enjoy it instead of rushing through it. For me, the fall season makes it easier to slow down and savor the moment.
Getting outside: Even though I love the cozy side of fall, one of my favorite things about the season is still being outside. Whether it’s a ride, a walk to see the changing leaves or simply taking advantage of a beautiful day, I want to enjoy as much of that crisp fall air as I can before winter arrives.
What are the little luxuries that make fall feel like fall for you? I’d love to know what’s on your list.
