If there’s one thing I’m learning lately, it’s that slowing down doesn’t always come naturally to me. I’m used to being on the go, filling my days with work, errands, and whatever else finds its way onto my to-do list. Taking a step back and giving myself permission to do a little less? That’s been a work in progress.
As I continue recovering from my myomectomy, I’m making an effort to be more intentional about how I spend my time. I’m slowly getting back into my usual routine, but I’m also realizing that I don’t have to rush the process. Sometimes, taking care of yourself means knowing when to pause and making a little room for yourself in the middle of everything else.

Recently, I spent some time at the Montauk Salt Cave in Huntington, and it was a welcome change of pace. Even better? I had the entire cave to myself, which made the 45-minute experience feel like the perfect little escape. There was something refreshing about stepping away from my usual distractions and simply being present for a little while. No rushing off to the next thing or thinking about what I needed to get done afterward. Just a chance to relax, take a breath, and enjoy a little quiet time to myself.
It was a small outing, but sometimes those are the moments that make the biggest difference. After spending so much time at home recovering, getting out and doing something a little different felt good. I’m looking forward to returning to more and more of my usual routine, but I’m also trying to appreciate this slower season for what it is.

I know I won’t suddenly become someone who loves sitting still all day, and that’s okay. I’m just learning that taking time for myself doesn’t have to mean planning an elaborate day of self-care or completely clearing my schedule. It can be as simple as trying something new, stepping away from the daily hustle, and giving myself a little breathing room.
I’m taking things one day at a time and finding my own balance between getting back to normal and allowing myself the time I need. And if this season has taught me anything, it’s that a little pause can be just as valuable as checking something off my to-do list.
What does taking time for yourself look like lately?
