Welcome to Living in Steil!
This blog started in a chapter of my life I never saw coming: a thyroid cancer diagnosis. Shortly after my diagnosis, I started writing to share resources, connect with other survivors, and navigate a world I was suddenly learning a lot about. What began as a way to make sense of an unexpected experience became a place to connect with people who understood what I was going through and, hopefully, help someone else along the way.
Over time, both my life and this little corner of the internet evolved. While that experience will always be part of my story, Living in Steil has grown into something much broader — a place to share the things I love, the experiences that shape me, and everything in between.
These days, you’ll find a little bit of everything here: fashion finds, sailing adventures, time at the barn, personal stories, new experiences, and the everyday moments that make life interesting. Sometimes I’m sharing something I can’t stop talking about; other times, I’m reflecting on a life lesson, trying something new, or figuring things out as I go.
I’ve learned that life rarely follows a script. Plans change, unexpected things happen, and sometimes the best stories come from the chapters you never would have chosen for yourself. I try not to take it all too seriously, find humor where I can, and appreciate the good things along the way.
At its heart, Living in Steil is about living life on your own terms, embracing what makes you who you are, and finding inspiration in the big moments and the little ones alike.

A little more about me – Vanessa E. Steil
A few things about me: I’m a horse girl, a sailing enthusiast, a fashion lover, and someone who will almost always have a new idea up her sleeve. I love discovering new brands, finding pieces that make everyday life a little more fun, and having a creative outlet to bring my ideas to life.
I’m also a bit of a multi-hyphenate when it comes to work and creativity. Between writing, social media, and dreaming up ideas for Living in Steil, there’s rarely a shortage of things keeping me busy.
