Spring Style: Who What Wear

Spring Style: Who What Wear

Move over Mossimo. These days I am loving a new line at Target. Who What Wear stole my heart when I first spotted the bold yellow floral sweater on a recent shopping trip (print seen above in the skirt version). So many people inquired where I got the top when I wore it to work recently that I knew I needed more of this line in my life.

After I purchased the sweater, I regretted not buying the floral bomber jacket—which I ended up going back for (and am glad that I did). I scooped it up in a small and the fit was just right with a light long sleeve layered underneath. Trust me—you will want this little jacket in your spring arsenal. I styled it with jeans and a pair of low heels and it instantly elevated my casual Friday ensemble.

Next up—The white long sleeve blouse with bow collar that is styled under the floral bomber. Can we say “winner”? I had to search three Targets for the blouse in my size (yes, you could say I was determined), but in the end it was worth it. Although you can’t see it pictured above, the blouse has black piping that runs down the sleeves. And the bow collar makes this a fun piece for work or play.

Lastly, the ribbed cold shoulder sweater was just too cute to pass up. I went with the black version and am looking forward to wearing it when the weather warms up.

And for my tall girlfriends out there—I wish I could pull off the pleated skirt, but it would look like a dress on me. Still, I had to include it because it is classic and chic.

I highly doubt that my obsession with the Who What Wear line will end any time soon. This collection makes getting dressed for work so simple. I love that you can mix and match all the pieces, and the pops of color are the perfect way to welcome spring.

My Favorite Bags for Spring

My Favorite Bags for Spring

Ah, spring!

While the weather may not be quite there yet, I am counting down the days until the season of extra light and warmer weather arrives. So in honor of spring, I’m hooking you up with some of my favorite handbag styles in very spring-like shades.

What are some of your favorite styles for spring?

Nessie’s Picks for Spring

Nessie's Picks for Spring

At the first sign of spring, you can usually find me swapping out my heavy winter layers in favor of lighter looks. So when I saw a crocus pop up this week, I had to remind myself that we are just entering March (and that my transition would be premature).

In putting together a round-up of items for spring that I am currently coveting, I thought it would be fun to share some that I already own (and love), others that I have been dying to try, and ones that will be purchased (just as soon as payday rolls around).

So, let’s jump right in.

A must for spring: Few things get me as excited as a suede moto jacket. And this one from Banana Republic ticks all the boxes. It’s the perfect color and fabric for the upcoming season, so you won’t regret buying this fun transitional piece.

Will be buying ASAP: I have yet to find the perfect pair of lace-up flats. Despite numerous trips to DSW and Nordstrom Rack, I haven’t had much luck with this style. But that all changed when I spotted these Gap beauties. The blue jean color was just what I have been looking for—and obviously, I love that they come in suede. Let’s hope that they are as comfy as they are chic when I go to try them on.

Need to try: Now that I am making a hardcore effort to be healthy and eat better, using cleaner beauty products is a high priority. I have heard and read a lot of good reviews about the RMS products, and now that I am in the market for a new highlighter, it seems like the perfect time to give the brand a try.

Wish list: Fortunately, I don’t have to spend a hefty sum on this wish list item, thanks to Target. Mossimo has an almost identical version of these beauties for a fraction of the price.

Can’t resist: We all have items that we don’t need but would love to have, right? These tassel earrings from Baublebar is just that for me. How cute would they look with a nice sundress or chambray top?

Buy these: If this is the only piece of advice that you ever take from me, then buy these pants…now. The Sloan-fit pants from Banana Republic are a must-have for us petites. I have never found a pair of pants to be so comfortable and flattering that I go back and buy three more pairs…the same day. Oh, and did I mention that they don’t need to be hemmed? If you were to ask anyone in my office, they would probably describe these babies as my office uniform.

What are you swooning over for spring?

Valentine’s Day Treats and Trinkets

Valentine’s Day Treats and Trinkets

I gave myself permission to take a long weekend…at least around here. So, apologies for my absence on Monday. I promise not to make it a regular occurrence.

What’s the best part about February…aside from New York Fashion Week, of course? Valentine’s Day, duh! Although I will be curbing my sweet tooth and trying not to indulge too much this year (oh, those Entenmann’s Valentine’s Day cupcakes are calling my name, though), I thought I would round up some cute gift ideas for yourself, a BFF, or significant other.

Lately, I am all about cozy sweatshirts that look just as good worn while laying on the couch and binge-watching your favorite show as they do paired with skinny jeans and a tailored coat. So how could I resist that XOXO number above in a super festive color? That’s right, I couldn’t. And in keeping with the XO trend, let’s give those red flats a moment. I could see rocking those babies well after Valentine’s Day.

Heading to a Valentine’s Day party? How about bringing decadent festive cupcakes, an appropriately themed heart plate from Williams-Sonoma for the hostess, or fun cocktail napkins for guests?

So, even if you are on a sugar detox like me, there are still plenty of ways to show your love and get into the Valentine’s Day spirit.

The Gift Guide for Everyone on Your List

Now that it is officially December, the time has come to start presenting you with all of those fun gift guides. Since I have yet to do any holiday shopping (well, I did gift myself a few new things from Target yesterday — including the buffalo plaid pajama set seen below), I thought I would round up some items that will be gifted (hopefully to others!) this season. Whether you are searching for that special something for the fashionista, techie, or hard-to-please coffee drinker in your life, here are some presents that will be well received.

Fall Trends to Try

Fall Trends to Try

Nothing welcomes a new month like adding new pieces to your closet (#amIright?). So now is a great time to jump on this season’s hottest trends.

While I’ve had a hard time putting away all of my favorite summer staples, I was delighted to see that with at least two trends I can have a little bit of summer with my fall. The sailor-inspired theme seen lately in everything from pants, skirts, and blazers makes me feel like summer is still with us. And, of course, it’s hard to resist a floral print, so I am glad to see that is still going strong this season.

But the one thing that is lacking in my closet at the moment is buffalo plaid. I love the pattern (and can totally see rocking the look with tights and riding boots, once the weather gets colder). Don’t believe me? Check out Memorandum to see more great buffalo plaid options and styling ideas.

While these are all notable trends, can we give velvet pieces everywhere the moment they deserve? I’m excited to see velvet make the trend list this year, and I will certainly be donning some burgundy velvet skinny jeans in the near future.

What trends are you loving this season?

Keepin’ Cozy

Keepin' Cozy in Fall

While I like fall, the cooler temps are quickly turning downright cold. I missed the memo the other morning that the high was only going to be in the 50’s for the day — and when I left my house sans coat, it was only 41 degrees. Brrrr!

As much as I prefer to wait until November before I break out the winter coat, I am going to have to give in a week early this year. While I’m at it, I guess now would be a good time to get some fall staples ready.

Luckily for me, my fall staples don’t change much from year-to-year. As long as I am warm and cozy, I’m happy — and nine times out of ten that means I reach for an oversized sweater, poncho, or blanket scarf to keep me toasty. This year is no different. But what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t add a few new pieces to my collection this season?

How to Build a Professional Wardrobe

Before I started my new job, I stopped at a few of my favorite stores for some additional pieces to add to my work wardrobe. My search always begins with Loft, Banana Republic, Anthropologie, and J. Crew (but by the time I get to Banana Republic, I’ve usually found everything that I need to get me through at least the first month of employment).

If you are new to the professional world, you don’t need to spend a ton of money to build up your collection. Here are my key staples:

How to Build a Professional Wardrobe

Blazer: I love a well-fitted blazer…even when I’m out of the office. I have quite a number of them in my professional arsenal, but my favorite has to be my grey one from Theory. It fits me so well that it seems tailor-made for me.

Pants: Banana Republic is my go-to for dress pants. I prefer the factory outlet — because the prices are better, and I know that I will find what I am looking for in their generous petite selection. I’m no fan of having my pants hemmed, so my main requirement is that they fit sans alterations.

Dress: For those days that are full of meetings (or when your alarm clock fails you and you need to run out the door in mere minutes), you’ll be glad you have a professional looking dress to throw on. I’ve resorted to such tactics on plenty of occasions. There is nothing worse than running late and having to ponder whether your outfit matches. Do yourself a favor, invest in these key pieces.

Heels: After working at home for the last 13 months, my shoe game was lacking. I needed a pair (or two) of heels — and that’s where DSW came in. I picked up a pair of suede Vince Camuto’s (which, once I break in, will be a favorite) and a pair of black patent leather Michael Kors. Just remember to be mindful of the heel when examining and trying on shoes. Nobody wants to come home from a first day limping with sore feet — take it from the expert on that one! Walk around in a pair — and picture yourself wearing them for a full work day. Then decide whether you want to buy them.

Bag: I’ve been using my black Coach messenger bag since I was a freshman in college. It has accompanied me on many a first day, whether to school or the office — and still shows little sign of its age. But when it does finally need to be retired, I see another Coach bag in my future. I like bags that can accommodate anything from the day’s lunch to an extra pair of flats, without feeling like you are carrying your life on your shoulder.

Fall Finds: Accessories from Anthropologie

Fall Finds: Anthropologie Accessories

If you are a regular reader of this site, you probably know two things right off the bat: I love Anthropologie and I love anything that has a monogram on it. So it should come as no surprise that on my most recent stroll through my local Anthropologie I was swooning over their latest fall accessories.

I must express some disappointment that they fail to carry any “V” initials, either in the earrings or the necklace, but I digress. Other than that minor glitch, Anthropologie offers lots of beautiful statement pieces — at reasonable prices. I purchased a ring from them last year and it looks way more expensive than it actually was.

With a new season comes a few new purchases. And I certainly have my eye on the pieces above.

What I Wore to New York Fashion Week

{Top: Marimekko||Jeans: Mossimo||Bag: Phillip Lim||Wedges: Franco Sarto}

One virtue of attending New York Fashion Week in September is that the weather is mild enough to get away with wearing lighter layers. When I went in February 2015, it was bitterly cold and snowy in New York, and everyone was bundled up.

When faced with what to wear to the Louis Verdad show last week, I knew my white Mossimo jeans had to make one more appearance before fall officially hit. I’m all for wearing white after Labor Day, but this pair of jeans is strictly reserved for summer.

I also knew that my outfit had to be comfortable enough to account for nearly four hours of commuting round-trip and walking countless steps around the City. So what better to pair my white jeans with than a bold printed top from Marimekko and my comfy Franco Sarto wedges?

A special thanks to Kate of Taffeta & Tulips for suggesting an impromptu photo shoot in Midtown Manhattan and for taking such great pictures!
