Nessie’s Picks for Spring

Nessie's Picks for Spring

At the first sign of spring, you can usually find me swapping out my heavy winter layers in favor of lighter looks. So when I saw a crocus pop up this week, I had to remind myself that we are just entering March (and that my transition would be premature).

In putting together a round-up of items for spring that I am currently coveting, I thought it would be fun to share some that I already own (and love), others that I have been dying to try, and ones that will be purchased (just as soon as payday rolls around).

So, let’s jump right in.

A must for spring: Few things get me as excited as a suede moto jacket. And this one from Banana Republic ticks all the boxes. It’s the perfect color and fabric for the upcoming season, so you won’t regret buying this fun transitional piece.

Will be buying ASAP: I have yet to find the perfect pair of lace-up flats. Despite numerous trips to DSW and Nordstrom Rack, I haven’t had much luck with this style. But that all changed when I spotted these Gap beauties. The blue jean color was just what I have been looking for—and obviously, I love that they come in suede. Let’s hope that they are as comfy as they are chic when I go to try them on.

Need to try: Now that I am making a hardcore effort to be healthy and eat better, using cleaner beauty products is a high priority. I have heard and read a lot of good reviews about the RMS products, and now that I am in the market for a new highlighter, it seems like the perfect time to give the brand a try.

Wish list: Fortunately, I don’t have to spend a hefty sum on this wish list item, thanks to Target. Mossimo has an almost identical version of these beauties for a fraction of the price.

Can’t resist: We all have items that we don’t need but would love to have, right? These tassel earrings from Baublebar is just that for me. How cute would they look with a nice sundress or chambray top?

Buy these: If this is the only piece of advice that you ever take from me, then buy these pants…now. The Sloan-fit pants from Banana Republic are a must-have for us petites. I have never found a pair of pants to be so comfortable and flattering that I go back and buy three more pairs…the same day. Oh, and did I mention that they don’t need to be hemmed? If you were to ask anyone in my office, they would probably describe these babies as my office uniform.

What are you swooning over for spring?

Ear Candy

Ear Candy

If there is one trend I’ve been loving (and need to adopt ASAP), it’s the ear jacket. I’m partial to dainty studs, but a jacket or cuff can dress up any ear, and instantly creates an edgy vibe. I have yet to find an ear jacket from BaubleBar that I can resist (many options are sitting in my online shopping cart awaiting the final verdict). If bling is your thing, the Phoenix Wing Ear Cuff in gray is a glamorous option. But for those who are melting over marble, the Organic Fringe Ear Jacket and the Oz Ear Jacket may be just what you need. I’ve been swooning over the Ivy Ear Cuff Set and will have to hit purchase soon!

How do you feel about ear cuffs and jackets?

Gift Guide 2015: For Her

Gift Guide 2015: For Her

It’s officially time to start preparing those gift guides, heading to your favorite retailer (read: shop online in your pajamas), and get those gifts ready! I wish I could say that I did all of my shopping on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but that simply isn’t the case. If you’re like me, and are starting to look for the perfect gifts, I’ve curated a list of items in the $25, $50, and $100 price range to help you out.

Under $25

Stila Cosmetics Eternal Love Liquid Lipstick Set: No gift guide would be complete without one item from Stila, so how sweet is it that you’re getting three pieces for $20 with this set? By now, you know Stila (and their liquid lipstick especially) is a favorite of mine. This set offers you three vibrant colors that are perfect for the holidays.

Charlotte Russe Black Combo Snake-Textured Wristlet: Wristlets are always appreciated, and this one for $15 is perfection. I’m loving the snakeskin pattern on this beauty, and it offers more than enough room for your essentials.

Vincent Pradier Faux Fur Pom Beanie: Beanies are a must this season. So how about this classic and cozy one?

Molly Hatch Sweet Salutation Travel Mug: I first spotted this travel mug in Anthropologie and didn’t purchase it. The adage is true: nothing haunts us more than things we didn’t buy. I will be going back for it…and probably will pick up an extra one for a friend!

Under $50

CaseApp: I’m still obsessed with my marble case from CaseApp. This is an ideal gift for just about everyone on your list. Have fun personalizing an iPhone case for friends and family, or create a custom skin for their iPad or MacBook. Trust me, you’ll enjoy the design process and they’ll love receiving such a thoughtful gift. And remember, my CaseApp giveaway ends tomorrow (Thursday, December 3rd at 11:59 pm EST.), so be sure to enter for a chance to win your own custom creation.

Wrapped Feather Ring: I found a similar ring a while back that was more than $600! But this stunner from Anthropologie is a cool $48 — way better, right?

Athleta Faux Fur Scarf: When it comes to scarves, I’m well-stocked. But I’m missing a faux fur scarf. This simple scarf will keep you warm and can be discretely tucked under a coat.

Miss Albright Tasseled Monogram Coin Pouch: I bought one of these for myself as a birthday present last month. When I saw that it came in a ‘V’ I scooped it up at Anthropologie and have been using it to hold my business cards ever since. I love that it can clip onto any bag for easy access.

Under $100

BaubleBar Acrylic Script Monogram: Who wouldn’t want to receive this monogrammed necklace? It’s personal and preppy. Enough said!

Persaman New York Correa Leather Crossbody: I could never have enough bags, and one that is not well represented in my collection is the crossbody. This bag is a nice size for daily use and travel.

Chloe Women’s Square Black Sunglasses: I’m always on the hunt for sunglasses. My current Coach ones have visited enough countries for them to have their own passport, and one day they will have to be retired. These black oversized frames would be a suitable option.

GiGi New York Zip Pouch Spruce Embossed Python: GiGi New York is the perfect place to look for holiday gifts for the working professional, and this spruce number would be very well received.

Bubbly Over BaubleBar

With my gold jewelry obsession in full-swing, I decided to check out BaubleBar. I hesitate to order jewelry online, especially rings, since I can’t try pieces on, but I made an exception after spotting the crystal mason ring on another blog.

Crystal Mason Ring - BaubleBar

Crystal Mason Ring & Ice Initial Bar Pendant

My first foray into the land of baubles was like a kid walking into the candy store. There were so many great pieces to choose from that it was a challenge not to fill up my cart with numerous treasures at reasonable prices. Ultimately, I settled on the crystal mason ring and the ice initial bar pendant necklace. The ring was stunning in both gold and rose gold, but as I’ve been wearing more gold lately I opted for the former. Of course, I’m not one to pass up anything with an initial or monogram, making the pendant an easy choice. An added bonus was that it came engraved with a “V,” which can be difficult to find. I love that the necklace has three catches and can be worn at various lengths. The crystal initial complements the gold nicely and I’ve already made it a great everyday necklace.

Both pieces look as good on as they did online, and fortunately the ring fits!

Friday Faves

Happy Friday, everyone! I don’t know about you, but I am done with Winter. The last couple of weeks have been absolutely frigid and worse, have left my thyroid-less body with zero energy. Good news though, there are 20 days left until Spring! I can’t wait to break out the pretty sun dresses and see something other than snow on the ground. How will you welcome the start of Spring?

Hope you all have a great weekend…and stay warm!
