What I’ve Bought Lately

What I've Bought Lately

I vaguely recall posting something a few months ago about trying to save more money…perhaps by spending less? But when it comes to beauty items that I can’t live without, all bets are off. So when I ran out of my beloved Stila foundation over the weekend (thanks to the pretty new packaging that makes it hard to tell when you are running low), I had to make an “emergency” trip to Ulta.

While I was there, I couldn’t help but pick up another tube of L’Oreal’s Voluminous Mascara (if you haven’t tried this yet, it is seriously amazing!). The creamy formula will give you the longest, thickest lashes of your life. You can thank me later!

And since I finally figured out how to properly get that soft-wavy look with a curling iron (thanks to this post), the Triple Sec 3-in-1 texturizing spray from Dry Bar was a must (and came highly recommended by the salon at Ulta). I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but here’s hoping that for the price, it works magic.

If we can change the subject for a minute, I must tell you about the lace-up flats from Old Navy. I saw them in the store about a week ago and decided while waiting on the checkout line that I didn’t really need them. Fast-forward one week, and I had major #FOMO, so I returned and scooped them up on sale. Now, all is right in the world and I am looking forward to sporting these blue beauties.

Memorial Day Weekend Must-Haves

Memorial Day Weekend Must-Haves

I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited for the long weekend. The weather is supposed to be perfect (read: hitting the beach), there are tons of fun events happening on Long Island, and it’s a long weekend that marks the (unofficial) start of summer. So, what could be better?

Summer starts for me when I have a coral shade of polish on my nails (my favorite is Hot & Spicy from OPI), break out the rompers, and start living in sandals. Check, check, and check!

If you’re looking for wardrobe ideas for the weekend, the simple pieces above can elevate any look. And if you will be hitting the beach, remember to pack the sunblock. Nobody wants to start the summer off with a nasty burn!

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend. I’ll be back on Tuesday, May 31st with a new post!

Practice in Steil: Yoga Edition

Practice in Steil: Yoga Edition

In case you didn’t know, September is also National Yoga Month. Unfortunately for me, my yoga practice has come to a screeching halt, despite my best intentions of getting back to the mat.

Lately, all of my yoga clothes have been pulling double-duty in kickboxing, and they have taken a beating. There are so many options when it comes to finding the right yoga gear, and while I’ve found some awesome pieces for great prices at Target, I simply love Athleta. Athleta’s workout clothes are high quality and come in an array of colors, patterns, and styles, but my favorite part is their wearability. Now that I work from home (read: wear yoga clothes all the time) I appreciate that I can throw on some of my clothing from Athleta, head out the door for a quick errand, and not look like I belong at the gym. Their pieces are ideal for going from downward-facing dog to daytime duty, while still looking stylish. They may cost a bit more, but the durability of the fabric and the comfort factor are worth the investment.

Since it’s fall and I’m loving cozy pieces, I couldn’t help but swoon over the poncho, the sweater vest, and the sport dress seen above. Of course, joggers are totally in style this season and are one piece that you will definitely wear beyond the mat!

What’s your go-to when it comes to workout wear?

The Fall Line-Up: Coat Edition

The Fall Line-Up: Coat Edition

Friends, I’m caving. I know it’s not technically fall and I said that I wasn’t going to talk about fall fashion just yet, but I’ve cracked (please note, this does not mean that you will see me in a winter coat before November, as that is my completely arbitrary timeframe in which I feel it is acceptable to breakout said coat).

Now that we’ve cleared up any confusion, let me tell you what I’m loving for fall in the lightweight coat category. From my picks you may surmise that lots of neutral tones are on my mind. And you’d be right! But the pièce de résistance for me is the duster. I’ve seen dusters styled on a few blogs and they are irresistible…at least in my opinion. This lovely addition to any outfit is transitional, versatile, and functional. Okay, I may have made that last part up, but it does work for any season; can be worn over formal workwear, skinny jeans, or dresses; and functions to finish off an already amazing outfit. So, it has earned a spot on my fall must-have list and should be on yours, too.

The other item joining my curated ranks this year for fall is the cape. I never thought I would get behind this trend, but seeing a few of these beauties in action made me realize that I need one in my closet. It doesn’t get any easier than throwing on a cape and heading out the door on a chilly morning. And if all else fails, you can pretend you’re Superwoman!

And lastly, gingham. I’ve seen a lot of gingham styles over the summer, but I think it’s better suited for fall and spring. I can foresee buying a gingham coat later in the season…perhaps around November?

What trends are you loving for fall? Anything on your wish list that you can’t wait for?

What’s Your Beauty Sleep Style?

For those of you who know me personally, you are aware how precious my sleep is to me. So when sleep company Casper wanted to know more about beauty sleep style, it was a natural fit. Not only do I value my sleep, but I also enjoy being comfortable and fashionable while getting some shut-eye.

What is Casper, you ask? They are a mattress company — but not just any mattress company. Casper mattresses are made in the USA and boast an impressive design that allows for complete support of your entire body. They remain firm without that dreaded sinking sensation you get with other mattresses. Through a partnership of latex and memory foam, the sleeper gets the best of both worlds: a mattress that keeps you cool (thanks, latex!) and the support of memory foam that contours to your body and leaves you feeling as though you are sleeping on a cloud. And if testing it in their New York City or Los Angeles showrooms doesn’t have you fully convinced, Casper offers a 100-night, no-hassle return policy and a 10-year warranty. So there is no reason to lose any sleep over this purchase. Check out their Twitter page for ways to make sleep great again!

What's Your Beauty Sleep Style?

Now that we have a comfy mattress to sleep on, let’s discuss how to sleep in style. I love sleeping in a good old tee shirt (preferably one with some sass to it like those featured above) and a nice pair of shorts. And while that might work for some year-round, I like to rotate my sleepwear.

In the winter I’m all about cozy and warm, so the skull pajamas I purchased at the Nordstrom Rack last year will be making another appearance once the temperature drops.

For those hot and sticky summer months, lightweight and soft is key. A camisole and a cute pair of lace sleep shorts are perfect when you don’t want to wear a lot of layers.

And for fall and spring, satin and silk are my go-to’s. Be it shorts and a tank top or a sweet little nightgown, these are perfect transitional fabrics to pair with a comfy robe for chilly mornings.

There you have it! That’s how you get your beauty rest and sleep in style. I’d love to get your thoughts on sleepwear, so use #sleepinginsteil to join the conversation.

If you’re in the market for a new mattress make sure you check out Casper!

High-Tech Style

High-Tech Style

Calling all world travelers! This bag is the only one you will ever need. The Vedova Nera Bucket Bag by Mezzi has become my latest obsession (and is on my lengthy wish list of items out of my price range!). I came across the bag on Instagram a few weeks ago and scrolled over to their website to get the scoop. This gorgeous darling is equipped with a crowd-sourced GPS TrackR and has an integrated handbag charger for iPad, iPhone, Android, and USB devices. Bet you didn’t think tech and style could merge so seamlessly!

Fall Looks: Splurge or Save

When it comes to fall fashion, I must admit that I’m just not ready for it yet. In my mind it is still summer (at least until September 23rd); the sun shines late into the night, the days are warm, and August isn’t over yet. But I know that before long, these days will come to an end; summer dresses will get traded in for long-sleeved shirt dresses, tee shirts will be hidden under oversized cardigans, and my sandals will be replaced by flats. I know that this is the natural progression of the seasons (and fashion!) and that I need to embrace all that comes with the cooler days ahead…like pumpkin lattes, changing leaves, and oh, a fall birthday! The good news is that there are a few trends I’ve spotted that are making the transition a little easier for me. So come September, get set to lace up those ballet flats, grab that bucket bag, and throw on your favorite pair of skinny jeans. But until then, let’s enjoy the last bit of summer and just keep dreaming of fall fashion for a few more weeks.

Below are some of the items on my fall wish list with both splurge and save options!

Hair Hopes

Hair Hopes

Every year I go through a phase where I want to change up my hairstyle. If you’ve been following along, you might remember that last April I chopped my hair off and donated it to Locks of Love. I was excited to have enough hair to donate, and was ready to don a shorter style. Well, now more than a year later I find myself pondering that same old question of what to do with my hair? My layers have grown out, and thanks to my daily dose of Synthroid I am convinced that my hair is thinner than it once was.

I’ve not so secretly envied (and admired) those girls who can go to the hair salon with an inspiration picture and a vision in mind and stick to their convictions once the sheers come out. But I am not one of them. I go in with the best intentions of cutting three, four, five, even six inches off and then I get scissor-shy and leave with a mere “trim.” I have been debating trying bangs, a look unfamiliar to me since I was a child, going for the ombré trend (are we still doing that?), or just finally embracing that short bob that I have always liked. Since it seems I am still a bit indecisive when it comes to saying goodbye to my long locks, I will admire those brave beauties who took the plunge and are living much lighter — until I can work up the nerve to do the same.

Beach-Worthy Bags

Happy June, everyone! I don’t know about you, but I can hardly believe today is the first day of June. And you know what that means. It’s time to dust off the beach tote, grab your favorite swimsuit, and get ready for fun in the sun. Below are a few of the darling totes I would love to have accompany me to the beach and hold all of my essentials in style. From playful prints to sassy stripes, which one is your fave?

Summer Splurges

Since technically the season still is spring, this post may seem premature. But with the onset of warmer days (we’ve been blessed with a few hot ones so far…and I’m not complaining!), I’ve gotten slightly carried away thinking about what I’ll need for my favorite three months. I’m looking forward to a summer spent wrapped in floral prints, one-piece suits, stylish sandals, and a new nail polish shade, of course. Here are a few things I’ll be splurging on!
