I recently spent a long weekend in Rehoboth right before the peak summer season—and it exceeded my expectations.
Things to Do in Rehoboth Beach
Even though it wasn’t peak season, Rehoboth was full of energy. The beach was packed with visitors playing volleyball, surfing, and walking the lively boardwalk. The town has a vibrant atmosphere all year round, making it a great choice whether you’re visiting in the spring, summer, or fall.
One of the highlights of Rehoboth Beach has to be the food scene. The area is filled with beachfront restaurants and cozy coffee shops. If you’re looking for a restaurant with ocean views, check out Above the Dunes. It’s centrally located and offers stunning seaside dining mere steps from the sand. On my second night, I had dinner at the Purple Parrot Grill and Biergarten, where I indulged in a German beer and the largest hot dog I’ve ever seen. The Biergarten is set in a lush garden surrounded by bamboo, making it a fun and laid-back spot for a quick bite. If you’re looking for a great coffee stop before hitting the beach, Rise Up Coffee Roasters—located right on your way into town—is the perfect place to grab your favorite drink and fuel up for the day ahead.
Where to Stay in Rehoboth Beach
There are plenty of hotels near Rehoboth Beach, but finding the perfect spot during the summer can be a challenge. I stayed at The Avenue Inn and Spa, a fantastic option for anyone wanting to be close to the beach and in the center of all the action. This hotel offers an on-site restaurant, indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, and spa services like massages and manicures. One of the biggest perks? An underground parking garage with free parking that’s included in your stay—a huge bonus during the busy season.
The hotel also offers complimentary breakfast, a daily wine and cheese hour at 5 PM, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies every night at 8 PM. My room featured a private balcony, perfect for enjoying Rehoboth’s beautiful weather.
Exploring Beyond Rehoboth: A Day Trip to Lewes Beach
Before heading home, I made a quick trip to Lewes Beach, a historic town just 15 minutes north of Rehoboth. Lewes offers a charming, small-town feel and is ideal for visitors interested in history, boutique shopping, and peaceful coastal views. It’s a must-visit if you have extra time during your trip.

After spending a few days here, I fully understand why Rehoboth Beach is considered one of the best East Coast beach towns. From its bustling boardwalk and pristine beaches to its vibrant dining scene and charming nearby towns, there’s something for everyone.
On my last morning, while taking one of my epic sanity strolls along the shore, I spotted two dolphins swimming in the distance—a magical end to a perfect weekend getaway.
