For the past week, I’ve been traveling and sightseeing in Europe. The trip marks my first time leaving the US since the pandemic, the first time I’ve brought client work with me on my travels as an entrepreneur, and the first time going overseas since losing my grandmother.
In a week, I walked more than 70,000 steps (or 30 miles), ate more food than I probably had in an entire month, listened to dueling church bells ring out multiple times a day, watched the sunset from an old fortress in the evening, savored every sip of my (not to-go) coffee, and embraced the slower pace of life that most Europeans enjoy.
I learned to sit still, to slow down, and to listen to all of the sounds around me that I would normally have missed. I used my phone to take photos and document the trip instead of rushing to post everything on social media in the moment. I leisurely responded to texts and emails, choosing to prioritize the here and now over what could be done later.
In the words of Henry David Thoreau, “It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.” I’ve always felt that every trip changes you, challenges you to think differently, and in a way, gets incorporated into your life. I’m leaving this trip feeling thankful for the time to experience a different way of living and the space to get some clarity in my own life.
Here are a few of my favorite shots from the week:
