I’d like to congratulate all of you (and myself) for making it this far in our new work from home reality. I was fairly certain that I would be going stir crazy by day two, so I am pleasantly surprised to still be maintaining my sanity a week later. While there has been a range of emotions that have accompanied me on any given day, establishing (and sticking to) a routine early on really helped me stay focused and get adjusted to working remotely.
One thing I knew that I needed to incorporate into my new routine was…exercise. While I miss my weekend kickboxing and infrared pilates classes dearly, taking a workout hiatus until things reopened was not on the agenda. And with many days of rain in the upcoming forecast, I’m glad that I’ve found a few workout apps to keep me on my game.
Every day during the week, I tend to take my “lunch break” from 1-2 pm and use that time to walk anywhere from 2-3 miles. Fortunately, I live near a few local beaches, so when my workday concludes at 5 pm, if the weather is warm enough, I’ve been heading to the water for a change of scenery.
But what do I do when I need to get a good sweat sesh in?
Recently, I’ve taken a little break from yoga and have decided to use this time to get back to my mat. While searching for some workout apps to download, I found the Down Dog app. This app offers a great mix of classes from beginner to advanced that can be modified by duration, intensity, and boost (meaning, the target area you’d like to focus on). You can even customize the length of the Shavasana that you’d like to conclude your practice with. I’ve taken a few classes with this app so far and have liked the instruction, the music, and the flow of the class. Oh, and did I mention that the app is free until May 1st?
While apps have been incredibly helpful, I’m also loving all of the Instagram Lives that many brands and studios have been hosting. Ghost Flower, the activewear brand that incorporates acupressure points into their attire, has been holding stretching classes on their Instagram page, and The Ness and Hilma, will be co-hosting an Instagram Live sculpt class on their page this Saturday, March 28th at 10 am EST. If you’re curious about what a sculpt class entails, check out this post about the pop-up sculpt class I took with The Ness at Gurney’s in Montauk last fall.
I’ll be adding more at-home workouts to my routine soon, so stay tuned to see what other ones I’m loving. In the meantime, I’d love to know if you have any at-home workout apps that I just have to try!
